Paramount Retail Group has acquired Saltaire Brewery for an undisclosed sum, boosting its stable of British brands as it meets a growing demand for craft beers.

The Yorkshire craft brewer joins the likes of Montezuma’s, Bristows of Devon and Tilley’s of Devon as Paramount continues to diversify its UK portfolio.

Commenting on the acquisition, Paramount chairman Paul Taylor said: “We are committed to preserving Saltaire Brewery's unique identity while using our resources to expand its market reach. This acquisition aligns with our strategy to offer high-quality, iconic products that resonate with consumers in the UK and beyond.

Strengthening existing deals

“Our existing relationships with the mass retail and food and drink sectors will be strengthened further, this will enhance our ability to quickly meet evolving consumer demands. By incorporating Saltaire Brewery into our extensive distribution network, we expect to achieve significant operational efficiencies and enhanced market reach.”

Paramount said it had recognised a growing global demand for authentic, UK products, of which premium craft beers were highly sought after. It hoped to leverage the established brand and loyal customer base Saltaire Brewery had already built.

Director Sunny Sharma added: “Saltaire Brewery’s outstanding craft beers are a perfect complement to our existing range of heritage brands. With the increasing global demand for UK-made products, particularly in the USA and Asia, we see tremendous growth potential.

Broader audience

“This acquisition enables us to introduce the best of British brewing to a broader audience, underscoring our commitment to quality and innovation.  We are excited about the opportunities this acquisition presents and are confident it will significantly contribute to our growth strategy to pursue further acquisitions of prominent brands, strengthening our market presence.”

Meanwhile, bakery ingredients supplier AB Mauri UK & Ireland has announced the acquisition of specialist blending business Romix Foods.

The deal saw AB Mauri take control of 100% of the shares in Romix, although no financial details of the agreement have been made public.
