Heron Foods issues product recall

‘The Smileys Surprise Egg’ contains hazelnuts but this has not been mentioned on the label, meaning it is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to hazelnuts or nuts.

The recall applies to all pack sizes and batch codes with a best before date of 30 August 2025. The batch code and best before date can be found on the edge of the product.

‘Return product to store for a refund’

In response, Heron Foods has issued point of sale notices in all of its UK stores explaining to customers why the chocolate egg is being recalled. It has also instructed anyone with an allergy to hazelnuts or nuts that has bought the product not to eat it, and instead to return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

Meanwhile, the retailer has been advised by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

Heron Foods is a discount retailer based in Liverpool with 330 stores across the Midlands and North of England. It was acquired in 2017 by B&M Bargains in a deal worth £152m and specialises in chilled and frozen products.
