Busy chefs can now create Tex Mex dishes in just a few minutes using Unilever's new Knorr Americas sauces.

The reformulated, prepared sauces, including Sweet Hickory BBQ, Salsa, Chilli, Cajun and Fajita varieties, are designed to be poured over prepared meat, fish or vegetables and cooked. They are versatile enough to use in a number of dishes, such as fajitas, nachos, chilli, burritos and potato skins, claims the firm.

Unilever Foodsolutions category marketing manager Laurence Smith says: "Consumers are becoming increasingly more adventurous with their food choices out of home, with 23% eating Mexican and Tex Mex food nowadays.

"With the smoking ban now in place, many families are dining out more, increasing potential for all day dining. Tex Mex is the ideal food to offer families with its choice of flavours, variety of portion sizes, opportunities for sharing and the chance to really get your hands stuck in and interact with the food.

"By serving fajitas on a sizzling hot platter, caterers can draw attention to their Tex Mex dishes, creating the theatre and excitement traditionally associated with this Southern American cuisine."

Knorr Americas sauces all meet the Food Standards Agency 2010 salt targets of 0.47 per 100g and have a 12-month shelf-life.
