Chocolate makes teeth happy
Two Belgian chocolate makers have launched tooth-friendly products, which have been clinically tested and endorsed by dentists.
The companies Daskalides and Chocolaterie Smet were supplied by manufacturer Barry Callebaut, a leading producer of cocoa and chocolate. The milk powder was replaced by milk proteins in the tooth-friendly chocolate, and sugar by isomaltulose - a natural sugar which can be found in small concentrations in honey and sugar cane.
The tooth-friendly chocolate has been given a 'Happy Tooth' label from Toothfriendly International, a non-profit organisation supported by dental associations. "All sweets that carry this logo have been scientifically tested by recognised and independent academic institutes for dental health," confirmed Dr Albert Bar, director of Toothfriendly International.
Edward Geldof, general manager at Daskalides, added: "This new product represents the ideal marriage between enjoyment and health. More and more of our customers actively search for products which combine these two properties seamlessly."
