IFST elects new president
The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) has elected Professor Carol Phillips as president.
Phillips completed her BSc and PhD in Microbiology at Cardiff University. She is now Professor of Microbiology and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Health at the University of Northampton.
Phillips said: “As the recent Pennington report on E. coli O157 outbreak in South Wales in 2005 has highlighted, the integrity of the food chain and the training of food professionals at all levels is essential for public health.
“IFST through its accreditation and Continuous Professional Development schemes along with the binding professional code to which its members adhere, provides a means of ensuring food professionals work to the high standards required to deliver safe and nutritious food to the population.”
