New Malcolm Allan factory officially opened

The site in Larbert has been up and running since early December, but saw its official ribbon-cutting this week, on the same day as founder Malcolm Allan's 95th birthday.

This year is also the 60th anniversary year for the business, which part-funded the new factory with the help of a grant from the Food Processing, Marketing and Co-operation scheme in 2012, of just under £850k.

James Allan, managing director, and son of Malcolm, said the firm had reached capacity at its existing premises, with increased demand prompting the decision to open a new production site.

The 25,000sq ft facility will enable to business to keep up with "demand for good traditional Scottish products from the supermarkets",​ said Allan.

Malcolm Allan is also launching new 1% fat sausage in response to the healthy eating trend, and the work by the Scottish government to reduce obesity in Scotland.

Including the new site, total employees at the business, which has an annual turnover of around £15m, now number approximately 150.
