DAPP replaced by Standard Pig Price
Those receiving DAPP via text message (SMS), will this week receive the SPP price instead. Bpex is also launching the Average Pig Price (APP) service this week, both are available through SMS.
Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) Market Intelligence head of data analysis Charlotte Garbutt said: "The announcement of the cessation of the DAPP was made some time ago.
"The two replacement services will offer rapid data for all those in the industry for whom prices are important."
The DAPP has been in decline since March this year when Bpex announced a shift to the APP over a six month period. The DAPP was in need of a re-vamp after several large pork processors announced they would be withdrawing from the survey, including controversial drop-outs Karro and Cranswick, which proved to be the last straw as Cranswick's drop-out Cranswick's exit caused a 30% drop in the overall sample size. The new system now uses data from sellers only for example marketing groups and producers.
To register for SPP text updates text dwpig to 83070 for 50p per weekly message. To receive the APP updates dwapp to 84555 for a 25p-per-week message.
