Pukka solution for pie maker

Mettler Toledo has provided Pukka Pies of Leicester with three high performance X-ray systems for contaminant detection.

Pukka Pies is a privately-owned family business producing some 50M pies and pasties a year. With a reputation for making food safety its highest priority, Pukka Pies wanted an X-ray system that would deliver outstanding levels of contaminant detection as well as minimising the number of false rejects, even when scanning products in metallic foil trays.

As a result Mettler Toledo Product Inspection received an order for three of its T10 XP stand-alone X-ray inspection units with reject systems. The three units have replaced older 'ferrous and foil' metal detectors used at Pukka Pies.

The new machines are capable of detecting contaminants down to 1mm in size and will reject pies containing tiny fragments of bone. As a result, Pukka Pies is now considering switching to a 100% X-ray-based pie detection system.
