Frozen food maker Birds Eye has chosen Castell's Salvo to protect warehouse workers at its Hull factory from unscheduled trailer departure.

Birds Eye's existing system of traffic lights and the manual powering up of loading bays by drivers was failing to prevent a driver from leaving a bay prematurely.

Once Salvo had been installed on all 10 bays, operating procedures remained unchanged, except that it was much safer and now there is a physical block that prevented 'drive-aways'.

Once drivers have reversed up to the loading bay, they collect a Salvo Susie lock from a cabinet next to the bay door and fit it to the airline coupling. This releases a key from the end of the unit, which drivers then insert into an electrical switch next to the cabinet. By turning the key, drivers power up the bay, change the external traffic lights to red and the internal lights to green. Loaders now know that it is safe to begin loading or unloading.
