The food and dairy division of Niro has developed the technology for incorporating adjustable nozzles in its spray dryers. This allows the nozzles within a dryer to be moved in relation to each other to enable fine adjustments to the powder properties while the dryer is running.

Most spray dryers have fixed nozzles. But in the Niro system, nozzles can be moved closer together or farther apart to change the properties of the powder produced. If, for example, a more agglomerated product is required with bigger particle clusters, the nozzles can be moved progressively closer together until the desired formulation is achieved. For a powder with less agglomeration, the nozzles are moved farther apart.

This adjustment can be made safely while the spray dryer is operating.
