The Lazur is an advanced water disinfection system combining ultraviolet (UV) radiation and ultrasound in a single unit. Recently introduced by water treatment specialist Hydroscape, the system gives up to 1,000 times greater eradication of micro-organisms than a conventional treatment system.

The simultaneous application of UV radiation and ultrasonic vibrations in water produces powerful oxidants that are uniformly distributed in the water and provide complete (99.999%) elimination of all micro-organisms, including spores, viruses and protozoa at initial concentrations of up to 106 units/litre.

The ultrasonic transducer, located directly in the ultraviolet radiation chamber, causes the formation of short-lived steam-gas bubbles in the water under low pressure.

These bubbles form around a nucleus that can either be spores of fungi or bacteria. When the water is pressurised the bubbles burst, creating zones of high temperature and pressure that destroy pathogenic organisms in the vicinity.

At the same time, free radicals, ozone, hydrogen peroxide and other active substances are generated in the bubbles under UV radiation of 185nm wavelength. The free radicals destroy any remaining pathogenic organisms.

Power consumption is about 8W/m3/h and service life of the UV lamps is approximately 16,000h.

The ultrasonic transducers have an additional benefit in that they also provide a cleaning action, preventing the build-up of biological films or chemical residue on the quartz sleeves of the lamps.
